West Grey declared a state of emergency Monday in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“The spread of COVID-19 and the safety of our residents remains our top priority,” Mayor Christine Robinson said in a media release. “West Grey is joining with several other municipalities to declare a state of emergency to signal the seriousness of this pandemic and the importance of proactive measures.”
West Grey has closed all municipal parks and facilities, cancelled events, and postponed all public meetings.
All critical services including fire and police services, waste and water systems, garbage and recycling pickup, landfills, and winter road maintenance will continue to operate.
“This is a difficult time, and we will get through this together,” said Robinson. “Our emergency operations control group will be meeting regularly and the municipality will ensure a timely flow of communications to the public.”
West Grey officials reminded everyone to follow public health guidelines including thoroughly washing hands for 20 seconds, staying home if possible and maintaining a distance of at least two metres from others if out and about.
